TRISURF have now run two very successful North Devon Inter-School Surf Championships. 2005 was held in tiny surf at Woolacombe. 10 teams from 6 secondary schools competed on foam boards and we changed the scoring criteria to include the craziest moves. This resulted in break dancing and head stands while riding. Pilton Community College came out top and won a Resin8 surf board to be used by their School Surf Club. See the press release.
2006 Inter-Schools was held at Croyde Bay in November. The weather was great without a cloud in the sky. However, predictably, the surf was flat. We had 12 teams from 7 schools and held it on a school day. This proved that schools are beginning to take surfing seriously as a sport in its own right. Luckily, we had a back up plan and did paddle/run relays.
