An exchange programme for secondary school age surfers visiting each region in turn for a week of surf related activities and learning.  The programme runs for one year with the same surfers.  Activity days are held before the exchanges in each region to build a solid team before travelling.

The training during the weeks include surf coaching, fitness, nutrition, weather prediction, environmental issues, tourism and surf industry development to name but a few.  Many visits are made to board shapers, cultural attractions and adventure centres.

Candidates are selected on a variety of criteria including dedication, commitment and willingness to learn as well as being keen surfers.  The level of surfing is not the highest priority and range from beginner to intermediate.  See selection process for more information.

This is effectively a surf guide with a difference.  The best way to get up to date information on surfing in a new region is to talk to someone in the know.  This guide provides contact details of businesses in each region who will be happy to tell you where to surf, at what state of tide and provide any up to date information on any particular hazards.  Information on accommodation, equipment hire or what to do if the surf is flat will also be available and will be backed up on this website.

This guide is also attempting to encourage visitors out of the main summer season, as this is when the surf tends to be best.  Business owners also have more time to answer any questions you may have.

Whilst working with secondary schools across North Devon on the selection process for the surfer exchange programme, it came to light that several School Surf Clubs were showing a general increase in members.  TRISURF set up training courses in Beach Life guard and surf coaching for school surf club organisers so that they could increase their clubs capacity.

TRISURF have also funded and worked with schools to organise the last two North Devon Inter-Schools Surf Championships which have proved immensely popular.  This competition has raised the profile of surfing as a sport in Secondary schools and is a great way for club organisers to meet up and share ideas on how the clubs can develop and support each other.  TRISURF plans to continue this support in a variety of ways in the future.
