TRISURF is an innovative project based on several surf and sea related themes involving three surfing regions in Europe (hence the TRI of TRISURF). The regions are North Devon in England, Donegal in Ireland and West Brittany in France.
75% of the project funding has come from a combination of European money (via the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund) and British Government money (via the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs). The money from these organisations is delivered to projects like TRISURF and a variety of local grant schemes by a European network called LEADER+". Visit the LEADER+ website for more information. The remaining 25% of funding has come from a combination of public and private money as well as services, equipment and time donated to the project. In the securing of this 25%, cooperative working and important partnerships were developed. A good support base was established for the project which will help to take it into the future.
North West Devon LEADER+ have a variety of objectives based around the main aim of “ Improving the skills and quality of life for those in rural areas”. One of the objectives specifically relates to TRISURF by stating:
“To encourage cooperative working and information exchange within the LEADER+ area and with other rural areas in England, the UK, Europe and worldwide“.
